About UsHISTORY
The University of Newcastle Hockey Club is one of the oldest and currently largest hockey club in the Newcastle/Hunter region. Although established over 50 years ago, the club has a variety of successes over the years and still today are one of the key clubs in the Newcastle Competition. 2015 marks our 60th year, and we are sure to commemorate this in style. WHY SEAPIGS? We are based off the University of Newcastle but are not strong enough tied to the Uni to share their logo. The university uses a Escutcheon as their logo, which is a sea-horse like animal. The Escutcheon was actually the mast head of Commander John Shortland's ship, who was the founder of Newcastle. In a compromise we adopted a pig instead of the horse half of the Escutcheon; which we have embedded its use to the point that it is synonymous with the University of Newcastle Hockey Club and is perhaps more famous and/or infamous than our official name. |
